Prepare for a transfer from a non-EU country
French customs generally requires at least twelve months’ previous residence outside the EU and at least six months’ private use of the belongings for the main-residence relief. Import is normally within twelve months of the move. Its document list includes a dated, signed and valued inventory in two copies, residence evidence and form Cerfa 10070. Additional declarations depend on the goods.
Keep the inventory consistent with the load
Number boxes, describe their contents and list large furniture and special items separately. Values for customs and insurance arrangements are different matters; any agreed cover must be clarified separately. Welto coordinates the required forms and customs handling; you supply personal evidence and the goods information. Notify customs before selling, lending, hiring out or otherwise transferring duty-free goods within twelve months of import; duties may become payable.
Prepare the destination building
Tell us the building’s lift and protection rules, loading position and any route restrictions. The last section may limit vehicle size or involve a longer carry. Match the key handover to the delivery window. Cleaning or clearance of the Swiss home can be requested separately alongside the move.

Questions customers ask
Is a tenancy agreement enough on its own?
Not generally. Customs lists several documents; the required form of evidence depends on the case.
Do the same rules apply to a holiday home?
A second home is not automatically treated as a transfer of main residence. Its import arrangements require separate clarification.
